Spirit Snap Losing Skid at ACU

GLENDALE, ARIZ. - After nearly two calendar years, the OUAZ women's tennis team picked up a dual win on Saturday afternoon. The Spirit took down Arizona Christian in Glendale for its first dual victory since March 23, 2019.

The Spirit ended the 14-game skid with an impressive performance all around. OUAZ swept the singles point, as Giulia Leali/Veronica Gallardo cruised to a 6-3 win, and Maya Salamon/Saskia Wells gritted out a 7-5 victory.

OUAZ immediately pulled ahead 2-0 with a forfeit in the sixth singles match, then came within one singles win of the victory when Salamon won her matchup against Sylvie Schoenen 6-1, 6-3.

The other three matchups ended early, as OUAZ clinched the win without needing the other three results. It is the first time in program history the Spirit were victorious 4-0 in a dual.

Conference play rolls on next week when the Spirit host Hope International on February 20. The dual is scheduled to get under way at 10:00 a.m. Arizona time.
