Holthaus Scores 21 as OUAZ Falls to The Master’s

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's basketball team returned to the Faith Arena court on Thursday night and fell to No. 11 The Master's 71-45 in a Golden State Athletic Conference contest.

OUAZ (1-7, 0-3 GSAC) lost touch with one of the premier teams in the country during 13 minutes spanning the first and second quarter, during which The Master's (8-0, 2-0) went on a 27-6 run. The Mustangs' lead would reach 35 early in the fourth quarter before the Spirit used a 14-4 burst for a 19-12 advantage in the final quarter.

Makayla Holthaus scored a career-high 21 points on 8 of 17 shooting. Her fourth double-digit scoring effort of the season included three rebounds and two steals. Sedona Anderson added 19 points behind a 4 of 6 night from beyond the arc.

The Spirit shot 25.9 percent from the field and went 6 of 14 from three. TMU ended the game at 44.8 percent overall and held a 34-14 edge in the paint. Both teams committed 27 turnovers and had 16 steals.

Stephanie Soares led the Mustangs with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and eight blocked shots.

OUAZ will now get ready for another of the top teams in the NAIA as the Spirit host No. 2 Westmont on Saturday at noon.
