Women's Basketball Notes -- Week 3

THIS WEEK
After playing its first three games of the new season on the road, the OUAZ women's basketball team will make its home debut with a pair of games at Faith Arena this week. The Spirit will host SAGU American Indian College on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before hosting Embry-Riddle on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Both games this week will be available live on the OUAZ Digital Network and the GSAC Sports Network app. The OUAZ Network is available on your computer or mobile device at OUAZSpirit.com/watch. You can download the GSAC Network app on all Amazon Fire, Android TV, Apple TV, Roku devices.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
OUAZ enters its first home game of the season with an 0-3 overall record. The Spirit finished 4-5 at home last season and is 10-13 all-time since moving into Faith Arena.

This season, OUAZ is averaging 53.0 points per game while shooting 30.4 percent from the field. They make 20.0 percent from beyond the arc in averaging 2.7 threes per contest. The team leads the GSAC in free throws made and attempted per game while shooting 62.5 percent at the stripe.

The Spirit collects 40.7 rebounds per game and averages 7.7 assists and 26.7 turnovers. 

Defensively, OUAZ is allowing 89.3 points per game, with the opposition shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from three. The Spirit block 4.0 shots per game and record 6.7 steals while forcing 20.7 turnovers per outing.

ABOUT THE SPIRIT
Makayla Holthaus currently leads the Spirit with 29 points for an average of 9.7 points per game. She tied a career-high with 14 points at Benedictine Mesa after going 10 for 10 at the foul line. Holthaus has grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked two shots.

Elizabeth Ortwine is second on the team with 28 points – 9.3 points per game – with a pair of double-digit scoring efforts on the season. She has hit three times from deep while grabbing 14 rebounds. Ortwine has added five assists, two blocks, and one steal.

Cierra Kiser has scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. She has a pair of games with nine points scored and shoots 73.3 percent at the foul line. Kiser also has four assists and two steals.

ABOUT SAGU
SAGU American Indian College will make the trip across the valley with a 1-3 record (according to available results) and have lost three straight. The Warriors' lone win came at Bethesda on October 21.

Christin Bahe has scored 44 points (in the three games with available stats) to lead the team. She had 24 in the first of two games at Saint Katherine.

ABOUT EMBRY-RIDDLE
Embry-Riddle will visit Surprise with a 2-3 overall record having yet to play a road game. The Eagles snapped a three-game losing streak with a 70-57 win over Southwest (N.M.) on November 3.

Ella Schott leads the team in scoring at 13.8 points per game, while Susie Reynoso averages 13.4. Schott shoots 56.6 percent from the field and grabs 6.2 rebounds per game.

LOOKING AHEAD
OUAZ begins GSAC play next week with a road trip to California. The Spirit plays at San Diego Christian on November 18 and then at Hope International on November 20.
