Pestova Leads Spirit to Sweep at No. 24 Embry-Riddle

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – In the final non-conference match of the season, No. 19 OUAZ traveled north and picked up a 3-0 sweep over No. 24 Embry-Riddle on Tuesday afternoon at Eagle Gymnasium.

OUAZ (21-2) won the match 25-16, 25-20, 26-24 to run its winning streak to nine straight matches. They also completed a season sweep of Embry-Riddle (22-7) after defeating the Eagles in five sets in August.

Fresh off setting the program record with 31 kills on Saturday, Kate Pestova delivered 21 kills – a program record for a three-set match – on .349 hitting to lead the Spirit on Tuesday. It's the seventh time this season Pestova has tallied 20-plus kills in a match.

That effort led the team to a 44-37 edge in kills overall, and the Spirit hit .274 and held the Eagles to .135. OUAZ closed out the win with 19 kills as they scored 11 of the final 15 points to complete the sweep.

Livia De Pra added 11 kills and 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Kaia Nowlin-Chaffino posted six kills.

OUAZ was able to slow the Eagles' attack with four blocks and 47 digs. Each team recorded three service aces.

Eve Rodriguez finished with 11 digs, and Chelsea Taylor had a team-best four blocks. Cristal Carrizoza went for 35 assists and seven digs on the day she was named the NAIA Setter of the Week.

Caylee Robalin led Embry with 12 kills.

The Spirit will play the final two home matches of the regular season this weekend, and they start by hosting Hope International on Friday at 5 p.m.
