Women's Basketball Notes -- Week 4

THIS WEEK
The OUAZ women's basketball team opens GSAC play this week with a pair of games in California. OUAZ will visit San Diego Christian on Thursday in El Cajon before stopping at Hope International on Saturday in Fullerton.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
OUAZ will take to the road with a 1-5 record on the season. The Spirit is 0-3 in road games and will enter the action, having dropped 11 straight conference games. In the GSAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, OUAZ was predicted to finish ninth in the 10-team league.

This season, OUAZ is averaging 56.4 points per game while shooting 31.8 percent from the field. They make 23.2 percent from beyond the arc in averaging 3.8 threes per contest. The team leads the GSAC in free throws made and attempted per game while shooting 60.9 percent at the stripe.

The Spirit collects 45.6 rebounds per game and averages 11.2 assists and 27.6 turnovers. 

Defensively, OUAZ is allowing 75.8 points per game, with the opposition shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 31.4 percent from three. The Spirit block 4.4 shots per game – 25h in the NAIA – and record 8.0 steals while forcing 20.2 turnovers per outing.

ABOUT THE SPIRIT
Makayla Holthaus currently leads the Spirit with 57 points for an average of 11.4 points per game. She is coming off a career-high 15 points against Embry-Riddle last Thursday, and Holthaus has scored in double figures three times. Her season includes an average of 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 71.9 percent at the foul line.

Elizabeth Ortwine is second on the team with 40 points – 8.0 points per game – with a pair of double-digit scoring efforts on the season. She has hit three times from deep while grabbing 22 rebounds. Ortwine has added eight assists, three steals, and two blocked shots.

Cierra Kiser has scored 33 points and grabbed 21 rebounds. She has a pair of games with nine points scored and shoots 68.4 percent at the foul line. Kiser also has seven assists and four steals.

Marlee Johnson scored 20 points in the win over SAGU and is currently averaging 7.5 points per game. She has recorded at least seven rebounds in every game to lead the team at 8.3 rebounds per contest. That average is good for ninth in the GSAC entering the weekend.

ABOUT SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN
San Diego Christian will open conference play with a 2-3 record, and the Hawks are 2-2 at home this season. They are scoring 68.0 points per game on 37.2 percent shooting. SDCC opponents are scoring 63.0 points per outing.

Isabel Feller is averaging 16.4 points per game to lead the Hawks and rank sixth in the GSAC. She has a pair of 20-point performances, including scoring 28 in the win over Cal Maritime on Friday.

ABOUT HOPE INTERNATIONAL
Hope International is off to a 4-0 start, with all four games played at Darling Pavilion. The Royals are second in the GSAC by scoring 85.3 points per game while leading the conference in attempting 35.5 threes per night.

Ana Resendiz is second in the GSAC by scoring 18.0 points per game, and she leads the conference with 18 made 3-pointers. Shiane Talley grabs 10.8 rebounds per game to place third in the conference.
