OUAZ Closes Regular Season with 3-1 Win at Vanguard

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The remarkable season for No. 16 OUAZ women's volleyball continued on Saturday with a 3-1 win at Vanguard to run its winning streak to 13 straight to end the regular season.

OUAZ (25-2, 17-1 GSAC) once again battled through closely contested sets to secure the 25-10, 22-25, 25-20, 33-31 win. The Spirit ends the conference season with a GSAC record for conference wins at 17.

After OUAZ won the first set fairly quickly, Vanguard (13-11, 8-10) didn't go away, and the Lions would fight off seven match points before the Spirit claimed the match in the fourth set.

The Spirit needed 54 kills on .168 hitting to complete the victory. They also limited Vanguard to only 42 kills on .067 hitting while holding the Lions to negative-.086 in the first set and .000 in the fourth.

Kate Pestova recorded 17 kills to lead OUAZ, with Livia De Pra and Brookly Rainer adding nine kills apiece. The Spirit also got eight kills from Avie Butsko, six from Cristal Carrizoza, and five from Chelsea Taylor.

OUAZ picked up 92 digs, with Valentina Trovato leading the team with 34 to finish one shy of her career-high. De Pra added 16 digs while Eve Rodriguez and Carrizoza added ten digs each.

The service line also gave the Spirit an edge with nine aces, including four apiece from Rodriguez and Carrizoza. Butsko had seven blocks, Rainer posted six blocks, and Taylor added five.

Vanguard was led by 16 kills from Cambria Fernandez.

The Spirit will make its first appearance in the NAIA National Championship on Saturday, November 20. They will learn their opponent and destination when the tournament field is released on the NAIA Facebook page on Monday at 9 a.m. (Arizona).
