Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lertzman's Golden Goal Keeps Spirit Unbeaten in GSAC

The OUAZ women's soccer team completed its first conference road season, defeating San Diego Christian 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Spirit remain one of just two teams who have not suffered a conference defeat yet, the other being 19th-ranked Westmont.

Cassidy Calzaretta started the afternoon with a goal in the 19', her team-leading eighth of the season. Paige Murray-Hernandez picked up the assist on the tally, and she pulled into the conference lead with that helper, her fifth of the fall.

San Diego Christian found an equalizer late in the second half, as Ashlyn Edwards scored in the 77'. Neither team was able to break the tie in the final 13 minutes, and for the third time in four GSAC matches, the Spirit were headed to overtime.

The first two overtime experiences for OUAZ this conference season ended in ties, but the Spirit did not wait long to end the extra time. Mindy Lertzman scored 1:21 into overtime following a feed from Ki'i Aweau to give OUAZ its consecutive conference win.

OUAZ had a most of the chances all afternoon, as they finished with 22 shots compared to SDCC's three. The Spirit had nine of those shots hit the target to go along with all 12 of the game's corner kicks.

The Spirit will return home for a quieter weekend, as they host Hope International for the team's only game of the week. Kickoff from Spirit Field on Saturday is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
