No. 11 Spirit Handle Steers for Tenth Straight Win

TYLER, Texas – The 11th-ranked OUAZ football team remained undefeated on the season by picking up a 48-6 win at Texas College on Saturday night in Sooner Athletic Conference action.

OUAZ is now 6-0 overall this season and 6-0 in the SAC, and they haven't lost since the first game of last season.

It was all OUAZ from the start as the Spirit scored 21 points in the first quarter and held a 34-0 lead in the final minute of the third quarter. They scored on each of their first five possessions, including a pair of rushing scores from Marcelous Chester-Riley on the first two drives.

Austin McCullough threw touchdowns to Colin McClure and Jermaine Trotman Jr. for the following two scores, and then Michael Hall hit field goals of 22 and 29 yards for the 34-0 lead.

After Texas College (0-6, 0-4 SAC) scored its only points of the game with 37 seconds to play in the third quarter, OUAZ tacked on a pair of fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns from Darius Williams to cap the day's scoring.

In total, the Spirit gained 509 yards of offense and scored on all seven of their red-zone possessions. They gained 151 yards rushing while throwing for 358 yards. OUAZ totaled 33 first downs and ran 91 plays at an average of 5.6 yards per play.

McCullough finished 29 of 46 for 358 yards and two touchdowns while not playing most of the fourth quarter. He completed passes to 12 different receivers, with Chester-Riley and Ian Zamudio leading the way with five catches each. Trotman had a team-high 60 receiving yards on two grabs, including a 43-yard score.

Jh'dhan Lester led the Spirit with 52 rushing yards on ten carries. Williams gained 48 yards on his eight attempts while Chester-Riley ran for 46 yards on 12 carries.

Defensively, the Spirit held the Steers to 340 yards of offense while forcing two turnovers. OUAZ also held Texas College scoreless in three trips to the red zone with a fumble and two stops on fourth down. They also got an interception from SaMaury Alexander at the 1-yard line.

Robert Jordan led the Spirit defense with eight tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Travis Cutright II added seven tackles, and Michael Anderson recorded one sack. David Jones Jr. forced a fumble for the second time in three games.

OUAZ is now off until October 23, when they will host Langston at Spirit Field.
