Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Spirit Ignite in Second Half to Stay Unbeaten in GSAC

A frustrating start to conference play had a similar feeling through the first half of OUAZ's matchup with Vanguard on Thursday. The Spirit had just one shot attempt late into the second half as they looked to find its offense in the third game of its GSAC season.

OUAZ found that offense, as the Spirit score twice in 3:55 to take a 2-0 win from Vanguard in Costa Mesa, Calif. While this was the Spirit's first GSAC win this Fall, the team has yet to suffer a loss through its first three games.

Saipress Jones scored the game's first tally in the 53', finding the back of the net for her sixth of the season. She is now one behind Cassidy Calzaretta for the team lead in goals.

Defender Kendall Caron doubled the Spirit's lead in the 57' with her third goal of the Fall. It marks the sixth game this season in which the Junior has recorded at least one point.

Despite the slow start, the Spirit came out firing in the second half. OUAZ finished eight shots and four on target, all of the SOG coming in the final 45 minutes.

Goalkeeper Chloe Gutierrez made three saves for her second consecutive shutout. She made four saves against William Jessup last Saturday, and has not allowed a goal in 232:33.
OUAZ will get Friday off as they head down to play San Diego Christian on Saturday. Kickoff from Santee, Calif. is scheduled for Noon.
