Returners and Newcomers Shine for OUAZ Tennis at ITAs

The OUAZ men's and women's tennis teams put together the most successful conference runs in program history, and are ready to improve on that this upcoming Spring. The program's players, both returning and new, got a chance to hit the court last week to face off against GSAC players they will see down the line at the ITA West Regional Championships.

On the men's side, freshman Liam Spiers went the furthest in the individual bracket, bowing out in the quarterfinals to the tournament's fourth seed Felix Veyhle. Senior Austin Todd put together an impressive run as well, winning twice before getting knocked out in the Round of 16 by eventual singles champion Nick Niehaus.

The men faired well in the doubles as well, with both teams making into the Round of 16. Antonia Kostoff and Mackenzie Eichman went the furthest in the women's doubles, winning three times on their way to a Quarterfinals appearance.

The freshman Kostoff went deep into the bracket OUAZ in the singles tournament as well, pushing Deondra Bacchus deep in the 10-point tiebreaker, which ended 11-9. Giulia Leali, who earned 2020 GSAC All-Conference honors, also finished in the Round of 16.

Full results of the tournament can be found on the ITA website. For the latest information on both tennis programs, visit ouazspirit.com.
