Spirit Fall to Firestorm in Final Match of Regular Season

Glendale, Ariz.-- The OUAZ Men's Tennis team closed out its regular season on Friday evening with a 6–1 road loss to Arizona Christian in GSAC play. With the result, the Spirit move to 2–17 overall and 0–4 in conference action as they now shift their focus to postseason play.

Arizona Christian claimed the doubles point to take an early 1–0 lead. The Firestorm secured a 6–4 win at No. 2 doubles over Kasper Olofsson and Fabian Wetter to get on the board, before clinching the point at No. 1 doubles. Arvid Lindblad and Filip Novacek pushed their match to a second set after taking the opener 6–2, but ultimately fell 7–6, 7–6 in a tightly contested battle. OUAZ picked up a strong win at No. 3 doubles, where Max López-Gonzalez and Dashik Vieira earned a 6–4 victory.

In singles play, Arizona Christian pulled away with wins on five of the six courts. The Firestorm secured straight-set victories at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 singles to build their lead, while also winning a competitive match at No. 2 singles. Filip Novacek battled through a high-level contest, taking the first set 6–7 before dropping two close sets 7–5, 6–4.

OUAZ's lone singles point came at No. 6, where Dashik Vieira delivered a strong performance with a 6–4, 6–3 straight-set victory.

Despite the result, the Spirit showed competitiveness throughout the lineup, particularly in doubles and at the top of the singles order, as they prepare for the postseason.

OUAZ will now turn its attention to the GSAC Tournament, which begins Thursday, April 16.
