Spirit Shutout Firestorm to Clinch No. 3 Seed at Conference Tournament

SURPRISE, Ariz. – With seeding on the line for the upcoming GSAC Women's Soccer Tournament, the OUAZ women's soccer team struck quickly and secured the No. 3 seed with a 4-0 shutout of Arizona Christian on Saturday at Spirit Field.

OUAZ (10-3-3, 4-1-3 GSAC) wasted little time as Emily Lynch converted a penalty kick in the fifth minute. Ki'ilaweau Aweau gave the Spirit a 2-0 lead just 73 seconds later when she tucked her shot inside the left post after taking the ball from the defender.

Arizona Christian (3-11-1, 0-7-1) would control possession for the next 30 minutes, but they could not find a goal. Then, in the 43rd minute, Paige Murray-Hernandez added a third goal for the Spirit that carried them into halftime. Lynch would notch her second of the day in the 85th minute for the game's final tally.

Each team ended the game with 14 shots. OUAZ would get eight of its chances on frame while taking one corner kick.

Octavia McGraw-Giger recorded her first career win by making six saves in goal for the Spirit.

By earning the No. 3 seed for the GSAC Tournament, OUAZ will host Menlo – the No. 6 seed – in the quarterfinals on November 6. The game time has yet to be determined.
