Park Gilbert Pulls Away from Spirit

PHOENIX – The OUAZ women's basketball team showed at times what they could do, but there weren't enough of those moments as Park Gilbert pulled away for an 89-49 win over the Spirit on Saturday night at the PHHacility.

OUAZ (0-3) trailed 18-15 after the first quarter before Park Gilbert (1-0) used a 22-10 second quarter to build a 15 point halftime advantage. The Spirit would struggle to score in the second half, and they managed just eight points in the fourth quarter.

Cierra Kiser scored nine points to lead the Spirit. She made 3 of 5 from the field and converted all three of her attempts at the foul line. Kiser also grabbed four rebounds – three offensive – with an assist and steal.

Makayla Holthaus and Sedona Anderson added eight points apiece. Marlee Johnson led the team with seven rebounds, and Jayla Jones had three steals.

The Spirit shot 31.4 percent overall and went 3 of 14 from beyond the arc. They committed 28 turnovers that resulted in 26 points for the Buccaneers.
