OUAZ Can’t Match Long Range Shooting of Redhawks

MESA, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's basketball team fell behind early to Benedictine Mesa and couldn't recover in a 107-60 loss at the Mesa InterStake Center on Wednesday night.

OUAZ (0-2) fell behind 15-0 at the start, and Benedictine Mesa (2-0) hit on 5 of 7 from beyond the arc in the first quarter to take control of the game. The host Redhawks would finish 11 of 26 from deep, and they shot 50.6 overall while holding the Spirit to 32.1 percent from the field.

Elizabeth Ortwine and Makayla Holthaus scored 14 points apiece to lead OUAZ. Ortwine added six rebounds – including four offensive – to match Virginia Edmondson for the team lead in that category.

BenU Mesa got 23 points from Sarah Kruthaupt to lead all scorers.

OUAZ will return to action on Saturday when they face Park Gilbert at 7:30 p.m. at the PHHacility in Phoenix.
