No. 20 Spirit Sweep Menlo to Remain Atop GSAC Standings

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Saturday afternoon at Faith Arena, No. 20 OUAZ defeated Menlo in a 3-0 sweep with a 25-15, 25-14, 25-21 victory. It was the first time since the first weekend of September that OUAZ had recorded consecutive sweeps.

In completing a season sweep of Menlo (4-13, 2-10 GSAC), the Spirit moved to 18-2 and established a new program record for wins in a season. They also maintained their advantage in the Golden State Athletic Conference race with an 11-1 record in conference play.

OUAZ carried the momentum from Friday night's win into this match as they recorded a 39-19 advantage in kills while holding the Oaks to negative-.049 hitting. It marks the first time in program history the Spirit held consecutive opponents to a negative percentage.

Kate Pestova had the Spirit rolling with eight of her match-high 15 kills during the first set. She followed her career-best hitting effort from Friday night with a .364 percentage in this win. Pestova also added seven digs.

Livia De Pra would add eight kills while Chelsea Taylor and Brooklyn Rainer posted six and five, respectively.

The Spirit would finish with 48 digs, six blocks, and five service aces to complement the offensive output. Valentina Trovato led the team with 14 digs. De Pra had two aces, and Rainer and Taylor finished with three blocks apiece.

Jaden Scott led Menlo with six kills.

OUAZ now heads to the road for its next three matches. They begin the stretch on Friday at Westmont in a showdown between the two teams leading the GSAC as of the moment.
