Westmont Hands Spirit First Conference Loss

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – It was another tough outing for OUAZ on Saturday afternoon as the Spirit dropped a 3-0 decision at No. 20 Westmont in Golden State Athletic Conference action at Thorrington Field.

The loss is the first in conference play this season for OUAZ as they fall to 9-3-3 overall and 3-1-3 in the conference. The result was also the fourth in as many tries against Westmont (9-1-2, 5-0-1 GSAC) as the Warriors have outscored the Spirit 15-0 in those meetings.

Saturday saw the Warriors strike first in the 24th minute as Grace Duckens scored the first of her two goals after finishing on a rebound. She then made it 2-0 in the 45th minute to give the Warriors extra momentum heading into intermission.

Kate Stella would add the final tally in the 75th minute for the home side.

OUAZ would manage just three shots in the game with only one of those on frame. The Spirit did manage a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Cassidy Samuelson suffered the loss in goal – her first of the season – after making five saves.

The Spirit will close out the regular season on October 30 when they host Arizona Christian at 10 a.m. at Spirit Field.
