No. 20 Spirit Cruise to Home Sweep of William Jessup

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Playing its first match in over a week, No. 20 OUAZ showed no signs of rust as the Spirit cruised to a 3-0 sweep over William Jessup on Friday night at Faith Arena.

With the 25-15, 25-15, 25-15 victory, OUAZ (17-2, 10-1 GSAC) picked up its first sweep in the past six matches and just the second sweep of William Jessup (8-10, 7-4) in the history of the series.

The Spirit was in control of the match all evening as they recorded 38 kills on .345 hitting. The percentage is the highest in a conference match in program history and the second-best this season. On the other side, OUAZ held the Warriors to just 21 kills and forced them into negative-.040 hitting with 25 errors.

Kate Pestova led the way for the Spirit with 15 kills while hitting .519. She needed only 27 swings to tally the 15 kills. Pestova also led the team with 12 digs for her eighth double-double of the season.

Brooklyn Rainer and Livia De Pra added seven kills apiece for the Spirit. De Pra added seven digs and three service aces.

OUAZ had five aces and 45 digs overall. Valentina Trovato posted nine digs, while Cristal Carrizoza finished with 32 assists and five digs. Avie Butsko led the Spirit with four blocks.

Taylor Dilley and Mary Padilla had six kills apiece to lead the Warriors.

OUAZ will close out its run of five straight home matches on Saturday when they host Menlo at 1 p.m.
