Season’s Final Road Trip Presents Huge Test for the Spirit

As they embark on the final road trip of the regular season, the OUAZ men's soccer team will look for some of its early-season success and secure some critical points with a pair of games in California this weekend. OUAZ plays at The Master's on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and then at Westmont on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. as they look to play their way into next month's GSAC Tournament.

The Spirit is currently 9-3 on the season after alternating wins and losses in their past five outings. They are in a four-way tie for fourth place in the GSAC standings with a 2-2 record and six points. OUAZ is 2-1 on the road this season, and they split the two games during the last conference weekend on the road.

With three games remaining in the regular season, OUAZ ranks second in the GSAC with 34 goals while averaging 2.83 goals per game. They have scored in all but one game during the year with multiple goals in a game nine times. Their 17.1 shots per game rank second in the conference and 39th in the nation.

Tom Cohen leads the team in both goals and assists with seven and ten, respectively. He is sixth in the GSAC in goals and second in assists, while his 24 points are good for third in the conference. Cohen has recorded at least one point in eight of the team's last nine games.

Kebba Jobe has added six goals and six assists for 18 points. He sits third in the GSAC in assists and sixth in points entering the weekend. Jermaine Turner has tallied five goals and one assist.

OUAZ is second in the conference with a 0.83 goals-against average, allowing ten goals this season. The team's six shutouts are a program record for a single season, and they have allowed multiple goals in a game just three times.

Angel Ramirez has played all 1,080 minutes in goal with a 9-3 record and a program-record six shutouts. His 0.83 GAA ranks third in the conference, and Ramirez has made 29 saves with a .744 save percentage.

OUAZ enters Thursday with a 3-1 all-time record against The Master's and 2-0 all-time in Santa Clarita. The Spirit has won three straight in the series since dropping the first-ever meeting in 2018. That includes a pair of 4-0 wins at Reese Field. The Spirit has outscored the Mustangs 12-3 in the four previous matchups.

In the series against Westmont, OUAZ has a 1-3 record, and they are 1-1 at Thorrington Field. The one win was a 3-0 shutout in the semifinals of the 2019 GSAC Tournament. Westmont won the last meeting, 2-1, at Spirit Field in the 2020 GSAC Championship Game. The Warriors have outscored the Spirit 6-4 all-time with a pair of shutouts.
