Sydnee Busby did not play the 2019 season for OUAZ women's soccer after leading the team in goals during the 2018 season. In her first game back in 793 days, she scored the overtime winner in the Spirit's 2-1 win over Arizona Christian.
Busby ended the contest with a shot from 35 yards out that hit the bottom right corner to give the Spirit its first win of the season.
Emily Lynch got the assist on the game-winner, and scored her first career OUAZ goal to lead the Spirit offensively.
Lynch's goal in the 40' put the Spirit up 1-0 before halftime, and OUAZ held tough until the final minutes. Elizabeth Mulanda scored in the 86' to send the game to overtime, and Busby did not score until the 107', during the second overtime period.
The offensive opportunities were not scarce for either side. The Spirit finished with 15 shots on target (17 shots), and the Firestorm had eight of its twelve shots hit the target. OUAZ's
Cassidy Samuelson made seven saves in her collegiate debut.
The Spirit had all four corner kicks, but all of them coming in the first half. OUAZ also stayed away from the bookings as well, with ACU picking up two yellow cards while the Spirit received no cards.
OUAZ will have a week of practice before a long road trip that spans three states. The road trip begins February 9 in Siloam Springs, Ark. with a matchup against John Brown University.
