OUAZ Picks Up Split on Day Two of Molten Invitational

DES MOINES, Iowa – After opening its day with a five-set loss to No. 8 Jamestown, the 11th-ranked OUAZ men's volleyball team bounced back with a 3-0 sweep of Saint Ambrose in its second match of the day at the Molten Invitational hosted by Grand View University.
 
With the day's results, OUAZ is now 3-3 on the season.
 
The Spirit held a 2-1 lead over Jamestown (1-0) before the Jimmies rallied for the 25-10, 23-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-12 win. It was the third straight loss for the Spirit with all coming against ranked opponents.
 
After hitting negative-.269 with only five kills in the first set, OUAZ responded to finish the match with 55 kills and hitting .208. They weren't able to slow the Jamestown attack and the opponent from North Dakota banged out 57 kills in hitting .336.
 
Jordan Moses led the Spirit with 16 kills with Emery Outin adding 14 in defeat. Andrew de'Leon finished with 45 assists and nine digs while Conner Duyck posted four blocks.
 
OUAZ raced out to a quick start in the nightcap and snapped its losing streak with a 25-16, 25-19, 25-22 victory.
 
The Spirit held a 36-26 advantage in kills and the hit .343 against the .100 from Saint Ambrose (0-7). OUAZ also tallied three service aces to help overcome the Bees' 8-2 edge in blocks.
 
Moses again led the Spirit in kills with nine. Quaid King added seven kills on .538 hitting with five digs. Nicho Calles led the way with 12 assists and Tatum Gray had six digs.
 
OUAZ closes out the weekend in Iowa on Saturday morning when they face Dordt at 9 a.m. (AZ).
