The OUAZ women's basketball team had a chance to split its first conference series of the season, but struggled to find the bottom of the bucket on Saturday afternoon. The Spirit lost to The Master's 67-52, dropping OUAZ's conference record to 0-2.
The Spirit shot 29.7% from the field, including making only seven of its 28 three-point attempts. OUAZ did a better job driving to the basket and drawing contact, as they had 12 free throws compared to the zero they had the night before.
Sedona Anderson was OUAZ's leading scorer, adding 18 points to go along with three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. Nine of the 12 Spirit players who checked into the game Saturday scored at least a point.
OUAZ hit the glass hard on Saturday as well, especially on the offensive end. They picked up 15 offensive boards compared to the Mustangs' 10, and the Spirit forced 30 turnovers, 18 of those coming in the first half.
Four of the five starters for The Master's scored in double digits, led by Olivia Prettyman's 18. The Mustangs converted both behind the arc and at the free throw lines, shooting 50% from three and going 22-31 from the charity stripe.
The Spirit will get another tune-up before conference play resumes next weekend, as they host SAGU American Indian College on Tuesday night. No spectators will be permitted inside of Faith Arena for the mid-week contest.
