Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Spirit Fall to No. 2 Campbellsville in NCCAA Championship Match

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – For the third straight year the 12th-ranked OUAZ men's volleyball team faced No. 2 Campbellsville in the championship match of the NCCAA National Invitational. Unfortunately, the result this year felt eerie similar to last season as Campbellsville earned the win in a five-set thriller.

Holding a 2-1 lead in sets, No. 3-seed OUAZ (2-1) had two championship points in the fourth set fought off by the Tigers (5-2) before the No. 2 seed forced a deciding set. Campbellsville then got an early 3-point run in the fifth set that would be all they needed to win the second straight title by a final tally of 25-14, 16-25, 13-25, 28-26, 15-11.

It was a slow start for OUAZ as the team hit negative-.071 in the first set loss. They got things going in the next three sets and eventually ended the night with 54 kills and hitting .287. The Spirit also held a 6-3 edge in service aces.

Jordan Moses was the OUAZ leader with 16 kills on a .216 hitting performance. Conner Duyck hit .579 with 12 kills and Emery Outin added 11 kills and .421 hitting.

Andrew de'Leon distributed 34 assists and Quaid King had a team-best 13 digs. Blake Music posted five blocks.

Campbellsville finished the evening with 58 kills and a .269 hitting efficiency. Ho Yin led the Tigers with 16 kills.

OUAZ earned its trip to the championship match with a five-set win over top-seeded Erskine in the pool play finale on Saturday morning.

In the 26-24, 25-27, 28-26, 14-25, 15-11 win, the Spirit had a 55-42 advantage in kills and 59-36 in digs.

Moses led the team in the win with 20 kills and eight blocks.

After the championship match, the NCCAA announced that Duyck and Moses were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Spirit will return to action next weekend in Des Moines, Iowa when they play four times at the Molten Invitational. They will open the trip on Thursday against the tournament host and the No. 1 team in the NAIA, Grand View.
