Spirit Open Season with Sweep of Maranatha Baptist

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The 12th-ranked OUAZ men's volleyball team opened both the new season and the NCCAA National Invitational with a 3-0 sweep of Maranatha Baptist on Friday afternoon in Pool Play action.
 
With the 25-10, 25-23, 25-11 win, OUAZ improves to 7-0 in pool play matches all-time at the annual NCCAA tournament.
 
The Spirit dominated most of the match and finished with a 37-15 advantage in kills while hitting .444. They held Maranatha Baptist (0-2) to negative-.046 hitting and forced 18 hitting errors with 8.5 total blocks.
 
OUAZ had three players finish with seven kills to lead the team. Blake Music had his seven on a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage. Conner Duyck hit .875 with seven kills and Jordan Moses got his seven on .455 hitting.
 
Nicho Calles and Andrew de'Leon split setting duties and finished with 17 and 16 assists respectively.
 
The win sets up a de facto semifinal match against Erskine to close pool play on Saturday at 7 a.m. (AZ). The winner of that match will advance to the championship match on Saturday evening.
