SURPRISE, Ariz. – It was a busy day at Faith Arena on Saturday as the OUAZ men's volleyball team picked up a pair of home sweeps. OUAZ started the day with a 3-0 win over UC Merced in Golden State Athletic Conference play. They then came back to down North Greenville in three sets to end a perfect day.
With the two wins, OUAZ is now 12-4 on the season and they are 6-4 in the GSAC.
The Spirit opened with a 25-14, 25-21, 25-23 win over UC Merced (9-10, 4-5) to sweep the season series against the Bobcats. OUAZ hit .210 with a 42-31 edge in kills in the win and they recorded eight blocks and 51 digs to hold the visitors to .072 hitting.
Quaid King posted 11 kills on .294 hitting to lead the Spirit.
Quentin Campbell and
Colin Donisthorpe added nine kills apiece.
Joaquin Santa Cruz led three Spirit players in double figures with 11 digs. King and
Blake Music each had three blocks.
In the nightcap, OUAZ earned a 29-27, 25-13, 25-17 win over North Greenville (9-9). Other than a late run from the Crusaders at the end of set one, OUAZ controlled the match the entire night behind 38 kills and .304 hitting.
The Spirit also took advantage of seven service aces while holding NGU to .092 hitting behind 27 digs and eight blocks.
King and
Quentin Campbell led the Spirit with 10 kills apiece. Campbell hit .563 while adding four digs and one block.
James Yahner finished with seven kills, four aces, four digs, and two blocks.
Santa Cruz had a team-high nine digs.
Ian Fields recorded 36 assists and
John Estrada added three aces.
OUAZ has one match remaining in its home stand and that is on Thursday at 6 p.m. against Morningside.
