SURPRISE, Ariz. – Capping a day that will be remembered in college athletics for a long time, the OUAZ men's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep of Morningside before going in hiatus for at least two weeks due to the growing health concerns.
In securing the 25-14, 25-18, 25-21 victory, OUAZ (13-5) won a third straight match for the first time since starting the season 5-0. They have won all three matches during the streak 3-0.
OUAZ rode a strong offensive effort to earn Thursday's win, especially during a first set that saw the Spirit pick up 15 kills on .542 hitting. They would end the night with a 38-29 edge in total kills while hitting .311.
Quentin Campbell had a team-high nine kills in hitting .259 with 10 digs.
James Yahner and
Quaid King with total six kills apiece with
Blake Music and
Unique Smith adding four kills each.
The Spirit had four service aces and they used five blocks and 43 digs to limit Morningside (5-16) to .118 hitting.
Yahner added a pair of aces and four blocks to lead the team in each category.
Joaquin Santa Cruz had 14 digs and
Ian Fields finished with 30 assists.
