SURPRISE, Ariz. – Trying to hand third-ranked Menlo its first loss of the season, the OUAZ men's volleyball team couldn't find a way to slow the high-powered offense of the visitors in a 3-0 loss at Faith Arena on Friday night.
With the 25-20, 25-17, 25-22 loss, OUAZ is now 10-5 overall this season and 5-4 in the GSAC. Menlo completes the season sweep of the series and improves to 17-0 and 9-0 in the conference.
The Spirit showed signs of being able to hang with the top team in the conference at moments, but eventually the 43-29 advantage in kills for the Oaks proved to be too much to overcome. While OUAZ held Menlo to nearly 100 points below their season average in hitting, the .255 they did hit was still superior to the .114 for the Spirit.
Quaid King led OUAZ with seven kills while
James Yahner added six and Conney Duyck had five. The Spirit only totaled double-digit kills in the first set.
OUAZ did hold a 9.5-8.5 edge in blocks with Yahner leading that category with four. He also had a team-high 10 digs.
Menlo's Edin Ibrahimovic led all players with 20 kills.
The Spirit will have a quick turnaround as they host UC Merced on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Faith Arena. They also welcome North Greenville on Saturday at 6 p.m.
