Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Upset Attempt Falls Short Against (6)Vanguard

SURPRISE, ARIZ. – The OUAZ women's basketball team held sixth-ranked Vanguard to eight points in the second quarter and led the Lions by two heading into halftime. The Spirit gave itself a huge chance to complete the upset in the second half, but were doomed by a repeating theme this season – bad quarters.

The Lions came out of the half and outscored the Spirit 31-14 in the third quarter, and OUAZ could not find its way back. Despite a solid effort in the fourth quarter, OUAZ dropped its sixth game in the last eight outings, 71-61 on Saturday afternoon.

Natasa Radovic extended her double-double streak to three games with her 20 point, 10 rebound effort. She also added three assists and a steal in the process.

Mickey Freeman continues to be a force on the glass, as she grabbed 10 rebounds of her own, half of them coming on the offensive end. Kirsten Shinske continued her scoring touch, adding 16 points to go along with three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Victoria Chea recorded a double-double of her own for Vanguard, as she scored 23 points and dished 10 assists. The Lions were very active on defense as a team, totaling 14 steals on the afternoon.

The Spirit will get a chance to get back in the win column when they host cross-town rival Arizona Christian next Saturday. Tipoff from Faith Arena is scheduled for 5pm AZ Time.
