Shooting Woes Hinder Spirit in Second Half Against Firestorm

SURPRISE, ARIZ. - At this time of year, teams are trying to secure conference tournament spots to give themselves a shot at the national tournament. OUAZ women's basketball is in the middle of a heated race for a GSAC tournament spot, but failed to keep pace on Saturday.

The Spirit led 10 at halftime, but shot 16.1% from the floor and made only five field goals in the second half as they fell to Arizona Christian 67-60 at Faith Arena. OUAZ was outscored 37-20 in the final 20 minutes.

Natasa Radovic finished one rebound shy of yet another double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing nine boards. Mickey Freeman continued her stretch of outstanding play, adding 14 points and seven rebounds.

Baylee Slaughter led the way for ACU, getting a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Firestorm avoided the season sweep as they capitalized on OUAZ's tough shooting in the final two quarters.

The loss creates a tough situation for OUAZ to make the GSAC Tournament. Not only does the loss put the Spirit two game behind sixth-place Menlo, ACU now jumps ahead of the Spirit as they head back on the road.

The Spirit will make its final road trip of the regular season next week, and it quickly turns into an extremely important pair of games. OUAZ will face Life Pacific on Thursday, and Hope International on Saturday to close out the conference road portion.
