GLENDALE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's basketball team had yet to defeat rival Arizona Christian in its first two season. The Spirit took full advantage of the opportunity away from home on Saturday, and re-wrote its record book in the process.
Kirsten Shinske scored a school record 41 points on 54% shooting to lead the Spirit in a 93-88 win over the Firestorm. Shinske also converted a program-record nine 3PT field goals.
Shinske was not the only player etching her name in the record book. Radovic grabbed 18 total rebounds, which ties the record set by Jorie Mayfield on Jan. 7, 2018. Radovic also poured in 38 points, which is now tied for second most in a single game in school history.
The junior guard was etching her name in the national ranks as well. Her 41 points are the second most in the NAIA this season, only one point behind SAGU (TX) Lexi Rich's 42. Shinske has scored double-digit point totals in 8 of 11 games played this season.
Kate Sokolova, who normally pitches in the most behind the arc on offense, played a different role for the Spirit. She dished out eight assists and grabbed six boards to go along with eight points.
The Spirit cleaned the glass again, as they held the rebound advantage 49-39. OUAZ was aggressive on the offensive rebounds, as they led the category 21-12. It was the second consecutive game that the team has collected 20+ offensive rebounds.
The Spirit will look to ride the momentum into next week, when they travel to Southern California for a pair of conference games starting Thursday. OUAZ will take on Vanguard, then goes to Santee, Calif. on Saturday to face San Diego Christian.
