The OUAZ women's basketball team had its third opportunity in six days to take down a top-5 team when they visited #5 Vanguard on Thursday. While the Spirit competed for the final three quarters, it was the first ten minutes that doomed the upset attempt.
Vanguard outscored the Spirit 22-4 in the first quarter, and OUAZ could not come back from the deficit as its three-game win streak was broken in an 84-55 loss. The Spirit are now 8-4 on the season, and its conference record drops to 1-3.
Natasa Radovic was all over the stat sheet once again, as she scored 20 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists. She shot 54% from the field (7-13), plus added two steals and a block.
Kirsten Shinske led the team in rebounds with six and she also scored 11 points. Defensively Shinske contributed a block and a steal.
Mickey Freeman scored eight points and had three offensive rebounds in her season debut.
The Spirit will get a chance to get back into the win column on Saturday when they travel to San Diego Christian. Tip-off from Santee, Calif. is scheduled for 2pm MST.
