The second half of conference season started for the OUAZ women's basketball team on Thursday night, and it was a trip to Santa Clarita, Calif. to take on (3)The Master's. The Spirit trailed by single digits at the end of the first quarter, but they were outscored 52-23 over the second and third quarters, eventually losing 92-46 on Thursday night.
Mickey Freeman led the Spirit in scoring as she put in 16 points to go along with her seven rebounds and two blocks.
Kirsten Shinske scored 13, and shot 50% from three, plus picked up a steal and blocked a shot.
Kate Sokolova had a tough night shooting, but did contribute on the glass, snagging 10 rebounds in 35 minutes. The Spirit as a team were very active defensively, collectively blocking seven shots and coming up with five steals.
The Spirit will wrap up the SoCal road trip on Saturday when they head to Westmont for another top-five matchup. Tipoff against the 4th-ranked Trojans is scheduled for 2pm Arizona Time.
