SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's basketball team got back to games that affect its record on Thursday night, and the Spirit jumped back into the win column as they defeated Park-Gilbert 62-45 at Faith Arena. The win improved the Spirit to 7-3 on the season, and they have won 18 of its last 21 non-conference games dating back to 2017-2018.
It was another record-breaking night for OUAZ, as they grabbed 25 offensive rebounds in the victory. That breaks the previous program record of offensive rebounds in a game, which was 23 set earlier this season against SAGU American Indian College on Nov. 20.
Natasa Radovic led the way for OUAZ, as she grabbed six of the 25 offensive rebounds, plus collecting nine on the defensive end. She added 15 points, six assists and seven steals in the winning effort.
Taylor Davis scored a point for every minute she played, as she dropped 16 points on 50% shooting (7-14). She grabbed six rebounds as well, even though she played the second least amount of minutes.
Kirsten Shinske is starting to get in the groove, as she put home 12 points to go along with eight rebounds. She also dished two assists and was aggressive defensively, nabbing three steals.
The Spirt entered the fourth quarter up only up six points, but outscored the Buccaneers 18-7 in the final frame. It was a quarter that OUAZ took control of from the inbound, and it saw the Spirit lead by as many as 18.
OUAZ will have one day off, then travel across the West Valley to meet with rival ACU on Saturday night. Tipoff for the matchup is scheduled for 5:30pm MST.
