Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Spirit Force, Ultimately Fall in OT against Hope International

SURPRISE, Ariz. – This week's action for OUAZ women's basketball provided a chance to gain great ground in the Golden State Athletic Conference standings. The first test was against a team the Spirit were tied with in the conference, and they could not capitalize on the opportunity.

Mai'Zhrae Zeno hit a buzzer-beater to send the game into overtime, but the Spirit were unable to find its rhythm in overtime, and Hope International took a 65-62 win from Faith Arena on Thursday. The loss drops OUAZ to seventh place in the conference with a 2-4 record, one game out of a conference tournament spot.

Zeno's game-tying shot was not her only contribution on the night. In fact, she was all over the court and the stat sheet, recording a double-double. She scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, both career highs. She is the fourth OUAZ player to record a double-double this season, and the 11th total for the team.

Natasa Radovic was one rebound away from recording the Spirit's 12th double-double on the year. She scored 16 points to go along with nine rebounds and five assists. She led the Spirit with 39 minutes played, and was second overall in the game to only Hope's Taryn Uyematsu.

The Spirit were plagued by a poor shooting performance in the first quarter for a second straight game. They shot 2-16 from the field, 0-5 from three, and scored only seven points. While OUAZ improved its shooting throughout the game, they only made one field goal in overtime.

The Spirit will get a chance to get back into the playoff race on Saturday when they take on Life Pacific. Tipoff from Faith Arena is scheduled for Noon MST.
