Defense, Rebounds Lead OUAZ in Key Conference Victory

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's basketball team dropped just outside of a Golden State Athletic Conference tournament spot with its loss on Thursday. A matchup with Life Pacific on Saturday presented another opportunity for the Spirit to get back in the postseason race, and OUAZ took full advantage.

The Spirit had four players in double digits, and only allowed four Life Pacific players to record points, to pick up a 69-47 victory at Faith Arena. Natasa Radovic recorded another double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Mickey Freeman was one rebound shy of a double-double, snatching nine boards and contributing 10 points. Freeman was efficient with her shooting as well, scoring her points on 50% shooting from the floor.

Kirsten Shinske was firing from the court as well scoring 16 points with only three coming from free throw line. Shinske also had six rebounds, half of those coming on the offensive end.

As a team, the Spirit cleaned the glass on both ends. They held a 59-42 advantage in rebounds and had 20 offensive rebounds as a team.

With Menlo's loss and Arizona Christian's win on Saturday, the Spirit are tied with both teams for the final spot in the GSAC Tournament. OUAZ owns the tiebreaker with ACU thanks to the Spirit's 93-88 win on Jan. 4.

The big matchup with Menlo comes in seven days, when the Spirit head to Atherton to take on the Oaks next Saturday. OUAZ cannot look too far ahead, as first they will take on William Jessup on Thursday.
