SURPRISE, ARIZ. - OUAZ women's soccer looked to get back to their winning ways on Saturday morning, and the Spirit did just that.
The Spirit defeated Marymount California 3-0 Saturday, in big part to
Paige Murray-Hernandez's two goals.
Saipress Jones also picked up her fourth goal of the season.
Murray-Hernandez's goals were her first two of the season, and it took a bit of time for the forward who finished with six goals last year. The sophomore midfielder had a great game overall as well, and head coach
Skelly Kellar liked what he saw.
"She's a fantastic player," Kellar said. "She sees the game in such a different way. She was running hard, running fast, she was defending, she was getting away from (her defenders). The goals that she scored were well earned."
The Spirit snapped their two game losing streak, and they did it in a solid effort all around. Not only did they have the three goals, but they only allowed three shots on target. The win marked
Krysten Caballero's third shutout of the season.
"(We) came out and did a really good job of pressing and forcing the issue," Kellar said. "We had a plan to trap them in areas of the field and I thought the girls did a really good job of doing that."
OUAZ hits the road next week, as they travel to play Benedictine University-Mesa on September 12. Kickoff from Mesa, Ariz. is scheduled for 7:30pm.
