SURPRISE, ARIZ. - Friday marked OUAZ volleyball's second official game, and the Spirit faced the 23-ranked team in the nation. OUAZ took the first set from Westmont, but the Warriors made adjustments after that and took over.
Westmont defeated the Spirit 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-18) on Friday night. The match was the first GSAC conference match for each team.
The Spirit (0-2, 0-1) were able to muster up a lot more offense this time around, as they finished they night with 48 kills.
Austin Edwards led the team in the category with 10.
Katie Defer had nine kills, and finished the night hitting .316.
Sierra Dominguez had 20 assists, and
Kanoe Vinoya finished the night with 15 assists. Defensively,
Leni Bartley led the Spirit with 20 of the team's 62 digs.
Cassidy Rae and Brooklynn Cheney, who each had 12 kills, led Westmont offensively. Cheney, Patty Kerman, and Kendall Kenyon each finished with a plus-.300 hitting percentage.
The Spirit will take the court tomorrow afternoon when they take on The Master's to wrap up the opening weekend of conference play. First serve from Willow Canyon High School is scheduled for 1pm.
