SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ women's volleyball team locked up a Golden State Athletic Conference win for the first time this season on Friday night with a 3-0 sweep of San Diego Christian.
Katie Defer had her best night of the season in leading the Spirit to the 25-22, 25-20, 25-19 win. The junior matched her season high with 10 kills while adding nine digs and five service aces. Her second double-digit kills effort of the season came on .179 hitting.
As a team, OUAZ (2-6, 1-4 GSAC) recorded a season-best 50 kills on .322 hitting. They opened with 14 kills and .237 hitting in the first set before following that with 17 kills and .359 hitting in the second and 19 kills with .364 hitting to secure the victory.
Sharron Wallace added nine kills on .571 hitting in just two sets while
Avie Butsko had eight kills and hit .667 in her two sets played.
Austin Edwards also posted eight kills.
The Spirit ended the match with 10 service aces to mark the third time this season they have recorded 10-plus aces in a match. The limited San Diego Christian (4-7, 0-4) to .197 hitting and 35 kills behind 63 digs and four blocks.
Leni Bartley again led the way defensively with 22 digs with
Star Hoskie adding 11 digs.
Skyler Traut had a team-high two blocks with six kills and .545 hitting.
Kanoe Vinoya had a season-high 40 assists.
OUAZ is back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they face No. 21 Vanguard in their final home match of the month.
