Spirit Start Fast in Road Win at Soka

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – The OUAZ women's soccer team used a six-point night from Saipress Jones to open their two-game trip to California with a 6-1 win over Soka on Thursday night at the Lions Den Soccer Facility.

Jones scored a pair of goals and had two assists to finish one point shy of the school record. After Kiiaweau Aweau gave the Spirit (7-2) a 1-0 lead in just the third minute, Jones tallied her first goal in the 20th minute to help the Spirit take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Jones then extended the OUAZ lead by another tally in the 49th minute when she blocked a clearing attempt and slid a shot inside the back post. Soka (4-2) got their goal in the 54th minute, only to see Jones setup a pair of goals from Cassidi Calzaretta in the 65th and 77th minutes.

Kaycee Youngs wrapped up the game's scoring with her strike in the 86th minute when she headed a cross from Lola Ruvalcaba back across the area and into the goal.

OUAZ ended the night with 17 total shots while putting 13 of those attempts on goal. The allowed Soka to take 12 shots, but the Lions only had three attempts on target.

Krysten Caballero made two saves in securing her seventh win of the season in goal. The goal allowed in the 54th minute snapped her shutout streak at 303 minutes, 45 seconds which ranks as the second-longest by a Spirit keeper in team history.

The six points from Jones mark the fifth time in program history a player has achieved the number and she is the first to reach the mark without recording a hat trick.

Riding their three-game winning streak, the Spirit will be back in action on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. when they face Antelope Valley in Lancaster, California.
