FULLERTON, Calif. – The OUAZ women's volleyball played a road match for the first time this season on Friday night and fell in four sets to Hope International at Darling Pavilion.
The Spirit (0-4, 0-3 GSAC) fell by scores of 19-25, 20-25, 25-23, 21-25.
Austin Edwards led the OUAZ offense with 14 kills on a night she hit .167 with four digs and one block.
Avie Butsko added 10 kills and .233 hitting.
Hope International (7-6, 1-2) ended the night with a 48-45 advantage in kills and they limited the Spirit to .093 hitting and had 14 service aces. Each team finished with 108 digs and OUAZ held a 9-5 edge in blocks.
Leni Bartley anchored the Spirit defense with 26 digs to lead the six OUAZ players with double figures in the category.
Kanoe Vinoya had 14 digs to go with her 18 assists while
Katie Defer, Camilla Mitton,
Sierra Dominguez, and
Star Hoskie had 13 digs apiece.
Vinoya – the NAIA leader in aces per set – had two in the match to tie Hoskie for the team lead.
Skyler Traut had a team-high four blocks and Dominguez led the squad with 19 assists.
The Spirit will now prepare for Saturday's match at Life Pacific that begins at noon in San Dimas, California.
