PHOENIX – The OUAZ women's tennis team saw its regular season come to an end with an 8-1 loss at Arizona Christian on Friday afternoon at the Phoenix Tennis Center.
OUAZ drops to 4-15 overall this season with the loss and they went 3-9 in GSAC duals to finish sixth in the first season in the conference.
Arizona Christian (9-11, 8-4 GSAC) got off to a fast start by winning all three doubles matches. The Spirit No. 1 team of
Julia Ortiz and
Hana Papaco tried to get a doubles point for the Spirit before falling 8-6.
OUAZ wasn't able to get any momentum going in singles play as the host Firestorm won the first five completed matches for an 8-0 lead in the dual. Ortiz was able to get one point for the Spirit when she won the No. 1 singles match 7-6 (3), 0-6, 1-0 (8).
With this result, these two teams are locked into a matchup in the quarterfinals of the GSAC Tournament. That dual will take place at noon on April 16 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, California.
