Spirit Fall Twice to Open Final GSAC Series of the Season

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The OUAZ baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against No. 20 The Master's on Wednesday as they began their final GSAC series of the season. The Master's took the first game 12-5 before claiming a 10-1 win in game two.
 
GAME 1
The Mustangs hit four home runs, including three in consecutive innings by Aaron Shackelford, to lead them to the game one victory. The used a 6-run third and 5-run fourth to blow the game open.
 
Austin Shumaker recorded a pair of hits and two RBI for the Spirit. Derek Hayenga added two hits and an RBI with Hayden Durkiewicz also getting two hits. The trio each had a double in the loss. Chuck Steele and Ryan Mortensen added an RBI apiece.
 
Cole Anderson (3-4) surrendered 10 runs (six earned) on 11 hits in 3.1 innings.  Zachary Humphrey gave up two runs in the final 4.2 on the hill.
 
GAME 2
Mortensen homered to give the Spirit a 1-0 lead in the top of the second before The Master's ran off 10 straight run to complete the sweep. Shackelford hit a grand slam in the fourth inning for his fourth home run of the day and 30th of the season.
 
Mortensen joined Durkiewicz and Hayenga with two hits apiece for the Spirit's only six hits of the game. Durkiewicz would add another double.
 
Taylor Campos (0-3) gave up seven runs in four innings in his first start of the season. Miguel Cirino pitched a scoreless inning.
 
UP NEXT
The two teams will bring the GSAC season to a close on Thursday with a doubleheader that starts at 11 a.m.
