Spirit Drop Two against Firestorm

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ baseball team was swept in a doubleheader by Arizona Christian on Saturday in GSAC games at Royals Field No. 4 at the Surprise Stadium Complex. Arizona Christian would pull away in the later innings of game one for a 13-9 victory. OUAZ then dropped the nightcap, 16-6.
 
GAME 1
The Spirit would get out to a 6-1 lead through four innings in the opener. ACU then got going offensively with a 5-run fifth inning to begin a run of them scoring 11 consecutive runs to build a 12-6 lead before the Spirit scored three in the bottom of the eighth.
 
OUAZ tallied 13 hits in the game with Chandler Reynard and Rylan Collins getting three hits apiece. Collins and Derek Hayenga each had a double in the game for the team's only extra base hits. Hayenga had a pair of RBI.
 
Cole Anderson took a no decision after allowing six runs (three earned) on 4.2 innings. Juan Navarrete (1-1) suffered the loss in allowing one run in 0.1 innings of work.
 
GAME 2
Riding the momentum of the first game, ACU scored four runs in each of the first two innings to build an 8-3 lead. The Firestorm scored in six of their seven innings at the plate with multiple runs in a frame five times.
 
Hayenga picked up another three hits to lead the Spirit's 11-hit effort. Reynard, Navarrete, and Collins added two hits apiece. Hayenga had a double and two RBI while Reynard posted a triple with two runs driven in.
 
Miguel Cirino (1-5) gave up eight runs (seven earned) in six innings to take the loss.

OUAZ will take next week off for Easter. They are back in action on April 24 at The Master's in Santa Clarita, California.
