Baseball Splits Again

LINCOLN, Calif. – The OUAZ baseball team followed Friday's doubleheader split at William Jessup with another on Saturday. Again, the Spirit would lose the first game before coming back to win the second.
 
By splitting the two games, OUAZ is now 17-12 overall and 7-9 in the GSAC. William Jessup moves to 11-11 and 11-9.
 
GAME 1
Chandler Reynard homered to leadoff the game and the Spirit scored three times in the first inning. William Jessup tied the game with three runs in the third inning and then added three more in the sixth inning to secure the 6-4 victory.
 
The Spirit had 11 hits in the game and had four players tally multi-hit games. Reynard's homer was the only extra base hit of the game for the team. OUAZ was 1 for 10 with runners on base and 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position.
 
Miguel Cirino gave up three runs on five hits with six strikeouts in five innings. Connor Lowrie (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) in one-third of an inning.
 
GAME 2
OUAZ struck for four runs in the first inning of game two and then added another run in the second inning for a 5-0 lead. The lead would eventually reach 7-2 before William Jessup scored late to get a final score of 7-5.
 
The Warriors had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the sixth, but Taylor Campos got out of the jam on his way to a fourth save of the season.
 
Zack McLeod (3-2) earned the win after allowing four runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings.
 
Hayden Durkiewicz had three hits and two RBI while Derek Hayenga added two hits and two RBI. The each had a double as part of the team's eight total hits. OUAZ stole seven bases in the win with three from Durkiewicz and two from Lowrie.
 
UP NEXT
OUAZ has a non-conference game against 19th-ranked Benedictine Mesa on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Gene Autry in Mesa.
