SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ baseball team extended its winning streak to six straight games to tie a school record with a 5-2 win over Arizona Christian in a non-conference game on Tuesday night.
OUAZ (15-10) would open the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with a pair of runs.
Daniel Cardenas picked up a sacrifice fly for the first run and then
Chandler Reynard singled to right center to drive in the second run.
Chuck Steele would double the Spirit lead in the bottom of the third with a 2-run single to center field with two outs.
After Robert Bostedt homered for Arizone Christian (15-15) in the top of the sixth,
Race Traynor laid down a squeeze bunt to push the OUAZ lead back to 5-1 in the bottom of the inning.
Reynard had three hits in the game to lead a nine-hit attack from OUAZ.
Austin Shumaker and
Adrian Salazar had two hits apiece.
Zachary Humphrey started on the mound and scattered four hits in three innings.
Hayden Durkiewicz (2-2) worked a perfect fourth inning to earn the victory.
Taylor Campos locked down his third save with one strikeout during a perfect ninth inning.
The Spirit now head for northern California where they will play a Golden State Athletic Conference series at William Jessup on Friday and Saturday.
