SANTEE, Calif. – The OUAZ softball team split a pair of games at San Diego Christian on Friday afternoon. OUAZ began the day with a 4-3 win in eight innings to snap their seven-game losing streak and recorded the program's first-ever Golden State Athletic Conference win. San Diego Christian would take the second game 9-4.
With the split, the Spirit sit a 4-18 overall and 1-8 in GSAC play. The Hawks saw their record move to 7-14 and 1-5.
GAME 1
Vanessa Rodarte homered in the second inning and then singled in a run in the third to help the Spirit jump out to a 3-0 lead. It was 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh when San Diego Christian scored a pair of unearned runs to force the game to extra innings for just the second time in OUAZ history.
In the top of the eighth,
Emily Stebbins sacrificed the added runner to third and Rodarte drove her home with a sacrifice fly to put the Spirit ahead. In the bottom of the inning,
Miranda Davis through out the potential tying run from center field to end the game.
Rodarte and Davis each had two hits in the game for the Spirit while Rodarte's three RBI are her career high.
Amanda Almond had a double for the Spirit's lone extra base hit and Davis added two stolen bases.
Alexandra McCutcheon allowed three runs (one earned) in 6.1 innings of a no decision.
Bailey Coronado got the win after allowing just one hit in 1.2 innings.
GAME 2
A Davis 2-run single in the top of the fourth inning gave the Spirit a 4-3 lead, but the Hawks tied the game in the bottom of the frame and then scored five times in the sixth inning, including a grand slam from Bailey Romano, to secure a split.
Davis had another two hits in the game to extend her hitting streak to eight games. Stebbins also had two hits. Rodarte added a double and
Ashton Aggers delivered an RBI.
Coronado took the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits with five strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Spirit will close the six-game week on Saturday with a doubleheader against Saint Katherine. The first game is scheduled for a noon first pitch.
