SURPRISE, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's volleyball team snapped a four-match losing streak and earned the program's first-ever Golden State Athletic Conference win with a 3-0 sweep (25-9, 15-14, 25-19) win over Arizona Christian on Friday night.
OUAZ (6-5, 1-3 GSAC) started quickly with 13 kills and .600 hitting in the first set. They would totaled 11 kills in each of the next two sets to finish the match with 35 kills and hitting .267. The Spirit held Arizona Christian (0-6, 0-4) to just 16 kills and negative-.099 hitting in the match.
Eight different Spirit players had multiple kills in the win.
Jacob Vander Beek led the team with seven kills and two service aces.
Jacob Smith posted six kills in his lone set while adding two blocks.
Colin Donisthorpe had five kills and three blocks.
The Spirit had a 6-0 advantage in service aces and they tallied 29 digs to just 29 from the Firestorm. Each team posted five blocks.
OUAZ will be back in action next Friday when they head across the valley for a GSAC match at No. 4 Benedictine Mesa at 7 p.m.
