MESA, Ariz. – The OUAZ men's volleyball team saw its struggles on the road continue Friday as they were swept by No. 4 Benedictine Mesa in a Golden State Athletic Conference match.
 
While OUAZ (6-6, 1-4 GSAC) hung around in each of the three sets before falling 25-22, 25-23, 25-22, the Spirit couldn't match the 41 kills from Benedictine Mesa (12-3, 5-0) in falling to 0-5 on the road this season.
 
Jacob Smith led the Spirit's 33 kills attach with nine kills while 
James Yahner and 
Conner Duyck added eight apiece. OUAZ hit .117 as a team with 
Andrew de'Leon distributing 27 assists.
 
The Redhawks would hit .159 and hold a 10-6 advantage in blocks to securing a second win over the Spirit this season.
 
OUAZ had 37 digs in the match with 
Joaquin Santa Cruz leading the team with 11. 
Colin Donisthorpe posted three blocks and Yahner had both of the team's aces.
 
The Spirit will have a quick turnaround to bounce back from this defeat as they host Menlo on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Willow Canyon High School.
