PHOENIX – The OUAZ women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Friday, including their Golden State Athletic Conference opener. The day started the with the Spirit falling to No. 13 San Diego Christian 8-1. They then dropped a 6-0 decision against Lewis-Clark State. Both matches were played at the Phoenix Tennis Center.
Against San Diego Christian,
Julia Ortiz hung with No. 6-ranked Sarah Urbanek before falling 61-, 6-3.
Hana Papaco also took three games in a 6-3, 6-0 loss against No. 23 Nadine Geschke.
Michelle Fournier fell to No. 26 Valentina Sotile 6-1, 6-1 while
Bianca Amaya lost to No. 17 Aleksand Emelianova 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles matches, Papaco and Fournier dropped their match 8-3 and Ortiz and Amaya fell 8-1. OUAZ earned a point at doubles No. 3 by walkover.
The dual against Lewis-Clark State only featured singles matches. Papaco split her two sets before falling in the tiebreak 10-5. Fournier fell 6-2, 6-2 and Ortiz was defeated 6-1, 6-3.
OUAZ is back in action on Saturday when they face Hope International in a GSAC match at the Paseo Racquet Center.
