ATHERTON, Calif. – The struggles for the OUAZ men's volleyball team continued on Saturday as the Spirit were swept by scores of 25-17, 25-23, 25-17 at Menlo in a Golden State Athletic Conference match.
OUAZ (5-5, 0-3 GSAC) had just 27 kills as the dropped a fourth straight match since winning the NCCAA National Tournament. The Spirit posted just six kills in the opening set as Menlo (6-3, 1-2) held them to negative-.154 hitting in the set.
For the match, the Spirit hit just .053 while allowing the Oaks to hit .313 with 39 kills. Menlo also held a 9-5 edge in blocks with a 3-2 advantage in service aces.
Jacob Smith led OUAZ with seven kills while
Bryan Ilena and
Jacob Vander Beek posted five apiece. Smith and Ilena had two blocks each and
Joaquin Santa Cruz led the team with eight digs.
Menlo got a match-high 12 kills from Akash Dhothar.
OUAZ will now return home to host Arizona Christian on Friday at 7 p.m. at Willow Canyon High School.
