OUAZ Hosts Life Pacific & Hope International in Final Home Weekend

THE AGENDA
The OUAZ women's basketball team plays at home for the final time this week as they host a pair of Golden State Athletic Conference games. The Spirit welcome Life Pacific to town on Thursday at 5 p.m. to start the week. They will then host Hope International on Saturday at noon in the home finale.
 
Both games will be played at Willow Canyon High School. The team will honor its seniors in a presentation following the game on Saturday. Admission is free to all OUAZ home basketball games this season. Fans attending the games are encouraged to park on the south side of the gymnasium and enter the building through the west doors.
 
OUAZ Live will provide live video of both games on the NAIA Network and the Spirit Game Central portal. There will also be live stats during each of the contests. ABOUT THE SPIRIT
OUAZ enters the final home weekend with a 9-12 overall record after falling at Arizona Christian last Saturday. The Spirit are 3-11 in GSAC action and currently sit eighth in the conference standings. They are 5-6 at home this season.
 
Starting the week, OUAZ is scoring 65.8 points per game by shooting 36.5 percent from the field. They average 6.2 3-pointers per game at a 26.9 percent clip from beyond the arc. The Spirit make 69.2 percent at the foul line and they average 11.8 assists with a 0.7 assist-to-turnover ratio.
 
The Spirit are giving up 70.5 points per game with opponents shooting 39.9 percent. The opposition shoots 31.7 percent from three where they connect on 31.7 percent. OUAZ grabs 39.0 rebounds per game and allows 45.7. They force the opposition into 19.1 turnovers per game while averaging 9.9 steals and 2.6 blocks.
 
Bailey Osmer scores 15.3 points per game to lead the team and ranks sixth in the GSAC. She has scored in double figures 18 times and in eight of the team's last nine outings with four 20-point outings and one 30-point performance. Her 127 rebounds and 45 steals lead the team this season and she has added 43 assists and 14 blocks.
 
Alexis Smith is scoring 13.3 points per game with 15 games in double figures and four 20-point games. Smith leads the Spirit with a school record 40 made threes and she has made multiples threes in six straight and 10 of the last 12 games. Smith leads the team with 57 assists while adding 31 steals.
 
Jorie Mayfield averages 11.8 points per game and she leads the team at 6.2 rebounds per game. She has been in double figures 14 times and has a team-best four double-doubles.
 
ABOUT LIFE PACIFIC
Life Pacific starts the week at 1-23 overall and on a 22-game losing streak. The Warriors are last in the GSAC with their 0-14 record and they are 0-13 on the road. Samantha Custodio leads the Warriors in scoring at 12.9 points per game.
 
OUAZ defeated the Warriors 76-69 on January 12 in San Dimas, California. That is the only previous meeting in the series.
 
ABOUT HOPE INTERNATIONAL
Hope International will enter their Arizona trip at 16-8 overall after having their three-game winning streak snapped last Thursday. The Royals are seventh in the GSAC standings – one spot out of the final tournament spot – with a 6-8 conference record. Sydney Lopez leads the Royals in scoring at 10.0 points per game.
 
HIU has won all three previous meetings against the Spirit, including a 67-58 win earlier this season in Fullerton.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
OUAZ closes the regular season next weekend with a trip to northern California. They play at William Jessup on February 21 and then at No. 22 Menlo on February 23.
